High Impact

How to fish, shoot, hunt, set up a tent, drive a tractor, dig a hole, look people in the eye, properly shake someone’s hand and hold the door open for a lady… these are just a few of the cool things my dad taught me while growing up.

But hands down the coolest and most important life lesson my dad ever taught me was how to follow Jesus.  It had a high impact on my life. In fact, it’s one thing I still do to this day.

God tells us in Deuteronomy 6:6-9 that the commandments He gives us “are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”

I truly believe that the greatest impact anyone can have in life is to teach others to write God’s word on their hearts and to follow Jesus.

Imagine what would happen in your home if you made it your priority to teach, impress and encourage your family to follow Jesus? It would be life changing!

Your family would begin to learn life lessons like being kind, putting the needs of others above their own and loving their neighbor. Who wouldn’t want their children to learn these kinds of principles?

It all starts with you!

The first step to change is being willing to change yourself. If you begin to make following Jesus first priority in your life it will begin to affect the lives of those around you. That’s called impact! They will see the good change in you and will want it for themselves.

In fact Jesus himself told us that it was the most important choice in life when he said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39)

So what’s your impact in life going to be? What will you be remembered for? I hope you choose to impact people to follow Jesus. You will never regret it!
