How To Control Your Anxiety

Anxiety! That’s a fun word to say. Have you ever had to deal with it?

I deal with it every time I have to go to the doctor. I absolutely HATE it! I get sick to my stomach, nervous and grumpy. Can you relate?

Whatever it is in your life that gives you anxiety I have good news for you. There’s a cure. Want to know what it is?

Philippians 4:4-7 tells gives us the answer. It says, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

From this passage we learn four steps you can take to kick anxiety’s butt.

Step One: Rejoice in the Lord ALWAYS. This means that no matter how bad things seem God always has a win going on in your life. Focus on that!

Step Two: Rejoice! It says it twice because you were probably too anxious to hear it the first time. It’s doubly important for defeating anxiety.

Step Three: Pray in EVERY situation. Yup, EVERY! Life is too big for you to handle on your own and if you’re anxious it means you’re trying to do just that. Prayer is inviting God into the situation. He’s big enough to handle what you can’t.

Step Four: Give thanks! I truly believe that being thankful is one of the most powerful life practices you can do. Our problem is we spend our time worrying instead of giving thanks. Let’s reverse that!

When we apply theses four steps God make us a promise. He promises that his peace will act as a guard over our lives. It will guard our hearts and our minds.

Anxiety is focusing on the natural. Peace is focusing on the supernatural. Put these spiritual practices into your everyday life and God’s peace will come.

I'm praying for you,

Zac

Thank you, Pastor Zac for continuing to teach this. I used to wake up with anxious thoughts during the night and then not be able to go back to sleep. Since I have started turning those worries and anxieties over to God, I am able to get back to sleep with much more ease. Thank you for the reminder!
